Before he was a dentist, Dr. Cortes worked three jobs at once: overnight at Walmart, a gas station, and as a school custodian. He knows what a toothache feels like when you still have to show up for a shift. That's why this office is open on the days most dental offices aren't. You don't have to spend a vacation day getting your teeth taken care of, and you're not waiting three weeks for an opening.

At Kearny Mesa Smile Center we pair experienced hands with genuinely current technology. Digital X-rays. 3D imaging. Artificial intelligence built into our diagnostic software that acts as a second set of eyes on your radiographs and flags areas worth a closer look.
The equipment is not the point. The point is that you get to see what is actually happening in your mouth, on a screen, instead of being told about it.
None of this is new to us. It is the same standard we have delivered for more than ten years at our Mira Mesa office, the same systems and the same principles, brought to a second location. Dr. Cortes is genuinely excited to be opening this one.
From the moment you walk in, you will notice it. A friendly member of our team greets you, helps you through any paperwork, and gets you started on what dental care should have felt like all along.

Call us at (858) 256-4838 and we will get you on the schedule. If it is easier, text the same number. And if you have an emergency, take a photo of the tooth and text it to us any time of day.

If Dr. Cortes can see what the issue is from the photo, he will text you back with what he thinks it is and roughly what it takes to fix it.

You make an appointment for Friday or Saturday. You come in on a day you are not missing work and we do the treatment you need.

Anaissa is Dr. Cortes's wife and co-owner of Kearny Mesa Smile Center. She built this office alongside him and she runs it day to day: operations, patient communication, and making sure the front desk holds to the same standard as the chair. She is the reason this place runs the same way every time. Anaissa is a systems person, the kind who writes the checklist and then actually follows it, and she is at her best either talking with patients or building the next thing this practice is going to do. Whatever she starts, she finishes, at the same standard, every time. She will tell you that dentistry was never really about teeth. It is about people, and about earning enough trust that they come back.

Kimberly has six years in dentistry and a particular talent for patients who walk in nervous. If your last dental experience was a bad one, she is the person who will explain what is about to happen before it happens. She is meticulous in a way you notice. Kimberly works to a checklist and to a standard, she takes ownership of the room she is in rather than waiting to be told, and she runs the last appointment of the day exactly the way she ran the first. Born and raised in San Diego, she spends her time off with her daughter and her mother, hunting down new restaurants, and working through a steady supply of horror novels. At home there is a sixteen year old Doberman, a rescued poodle mix, and a black kitten.

Jasmine has more than twenty years in the dental field, and it shows in the small things: suction that is never in your way, the instrument in Dr. Cortes's hand before he asks for it, the check in halfway through a long appointment to see how you are holding up. Twenty years of doing a job well means the patient stops noticing the job at all. Ask anyone here what she is best at and the answer is people. Jasmine talks with patients through the entire appointment, and she is at her sharpest on the days that do not go to plan, when someone walks in hurting and the schedule has to bend around them. She does not wait to be told how your visit should go. She takes that on herself.

Kearny Mesa Smile Center is open Fridays and Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We are closed Sunday through Thursday. You can call or text us at (858) 256-4838 any day of the week, including weekdays, and we will hold you a Friday or Saturday appointment.
This is a second location, and it was opened specifically for people who cannot get to a dentist on a weekday. Dr. Cortes worked three jobs before dental school and knows what it costs to take a day off. Fridays and Saturdays are the days most working adults are actually free.
If you have dental insurance, your first exam, X-rays and cleaning are often covered in full. Coverage varies by plan, so text us a photo of the front and back of your insurance card and we will check your benefits before you come in.
If you do not have insurance, a new patient visit is $175 and includes a comprehensive exam, X-rays, a cleaning, and a whitening tray to take home. Plan on about two hours either way.
We offer membership plans starting at $38 per month or $379 per year, covering your exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride and unlimited emergency exams. The monthly option has an $80 activation fee at signup. Pay for the year in full and there is no activation fee. This is a membership plan, not insurance.
Yes, during our open hours on Fridays and Saturdays. If you are in pain, call or text (858) 256-4838 any day of the week, and send a photo of the tooth if you can. Dr. Cortes can often tell you what he is looking at before you come in.

Do not worry about that splitting up your care. Once we have you out of pain, your cleanings and anything else you have scheduled carry on here at Kearny Mesa.
We see patients age 14 and older. We do not treat young children at either office. If you are looking for a dentist for a younger child, ask us and we will point you toward a good pediatric dentist nearby.

Same dentist, different office. Dr. Cortes has practiced in Mira Mesa for over a decade and opened Kearny Mesa as a second location. He is the only dentist at both. Mira Mesa is open Monday through Thursday and Kearny Mesa is open Friday and Saturday, so between the two he sees patients six days a week.
